PDF Report Redesign - Summary

Overview

Completely redesigned the PDF generation system from a simple 4-page template to a fully-branded, professionally styled report that matches Upstate AI’s visual identity.

Key Changes

1. CDN Update

• Changed: html2pdf.js version from 0.10.2 to 0.10.1 per specification
• File: ai-readiness-assessment.html line 511

2. Brand Styling Implementation

Applied the full brand color palette throughout:

• Forest Green: #1a3a2e (headers, primary text)
• Orange: #ff6900 (accents, CTAs, scores)
• Cream: #f7f4ea (backgrounds, subtle accents)
• Muted Text: #556b5e (body copy, secondary text)

3. Typography

• Switched from generic Helvetica to Inter font from Google Fonts
• Proper font weights (400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900) for hierarchy
• Improved letter-spacing and line-height for readability

4. Page-by-Page Redesign

Page 1 - Cover:

• Forest green (#1a3a2e) full-page background
• White logo from images/logo-white.png (180px width)
• Large, bold “AI Readiness Assessment Results” title (42px, weight 800)
• Orange accent bar (80px × 4px divider)
• Client info: name, company, email, date
• Footer tagline: “Putting AI to Work”
• Contact info: email, phone, website

Page 2 - Results:

• “YOUR ASSESSMENT RESULTS” header
• Large score display (72px) with tier name
• Full tier summary (no truncation)
• Styled progress bars for all 6 dimensions:
  • Gradient fill (forest green → orange)
  • Clean 10px height bars with rounded corners
  • Score display (X/10) on the right
• Strongest/Weakest dimension callout in bordered boxes

Page 3 - Recommendations:

• “YOUR NEXT STEPS” header
• Numbered action items with orange circular badges
• Orange recommendation box with:
  • “Recommended Service” label
  • Service name (e.g., “AI Workshop”)
  • Starting price
  • Full service description (no truncation)
• Call-to-action section with booking link

Page 4 - About:

• “ABOUT UPSTATE AI” header
• Company overview paragraph
• Ben’s credentials in highlighted box
• 4-service grid:
  • AI Workshop
  • AI Audit
  • AI Execution
  • AI Advisory
• Contact CTA box with QR code image (images/qr-code-upstate-ai.png)

All Pages:

• Consistent footer with bold contact info and page numbers (Page X of 4)

5. Technical Implementation

New Functions:

• escapeHtml(): Safely escapes user input to prevent HTML injection
• buildDimensionBars(): Creates styled progress bars for the 6 dimensions
• buildActionsList(): Generates numbered action items with orange badges
• buildServicesGrid(): Creates 2×2 grid of service cards

Removed Functions:

• Old buildDimensionHTML(): Replaced with new dimension bar system
• Old buildRecommendationsHTML(): Replaced with action list builder
• Old buildServicesHTML(): Replaced with services grid

DOM Strategy:

• Creates temporary DOM element instead of returning HTML string
• Better compatibility with html2canvas rendering
• Element is hidden off-screen during generation
• Fixed width of 816px (8.5 inches at 96 DPI)

CSS Improvements:

• @page { margin: 0; } for full-bleed pages
• .pdf-page class with exact letter dimensions (816×1056px)
• page-break-after: always for clean page breaks
• Absolute-positioned footers on each page

6. Data Binding

All dynamic data properly bound:

• lead.name, lead.email, lead.company, lead.industry, lead.companySize
• scores.totalScore, scores.tier (name, summary, actions, service, servicePrice, serviceDesc)
• scores.dimensionScores (6 dimensions keyed by dimension.key)
• scores.strongest, scores.weakest (dimension objects with label, desc)
• DIMENSIONS array (6 items with label, key, desc)

7. File Naming

Changed from AI-Readiness-Report-<name>.pdf to <company>_AI_Readiness_Report.pdf

• Sanitizes company name (replaces non-alphanumeric with underscores)
• Falls back to lead name or “Assessment” if company missing

Files Modified

• ai-readiness-assessment.html - Updated CDN version and comment
• js/assessment.js - Complete rewrite of PDF generation system (lines ~300-560)

Testing Checklist

• JavaScript syntax validation passed
• Test PDF generation with real assessment data
• Verify logo loads correctly
• Verify QR code loads correctly
• Check all 4 pages render properly
• Verify page breaks work correctly
• Test with different tier levels
• Verify dimension bars display accurate percentages
• Check footer appears on all pages
• Test filename generation with special characters

Notes

• No jsPDF drawing code remains (all removed)
• No base64-embedded images (using img tags with paths)
• No em dashes used anywhere in output
• Working on main branch as instructed
• Changes committed and pushed to remote

Future Improvements

If needed:

• Add page numbers to header instead of footer
• Include charts/graphs for dimension comparison
• Add executive summary on page 2
• Include benchmark data (how client compares to industry average)
